For day 9 (October 7, 2018), we visited the Bradbury Building in downtown LA. This is a pretty popular tourist spot located in the Historic Downtown area of LA. There are a lot of other popular attractions nearby too.
Hours
The Bradbury Building is open to the public and is free. You can request a tour on Saturdays at 10AM to get access to the second floor.
Monday to Friday 9AM – 6PM
Saturday to Sunday 9AM – 5PM
Parking
Did we mention parking in LA is difficult? The first place we tried to park was another open lot. But as we drove in, the attendant informed us that the lot was full. We were about to park in another lot but we got lucky and saw a car pull out of a street parking spot. The street is 30 minute only parking but since it was a Sunday, that didn’t apply. We also didn’t have to pay either.
The Bradbury Building
The Bradbury Building is an architectural landmark and is also considered the oldest commercial building in LA. The outside of the building is as symmetrical and aesthetically pleasing as the inside. You can get a good shot from the street across the way.
When you go inside, you’ll notice the stairs right away and then the sky atrium.
There can be a lot of people taking pictures too so you might need to wait your turn. There’s also a security guard table in the middle of the room. There is at least 1-2 guards at a time around.
Even though the Bradbury Building is open to everyone, there is a security guard sitting at the desk in front of the second stairway. There are also a lot of rules like don’t sit on the stairs.
You are able to walk up the first ramp of the stairway but no one is allowed to go up to the second floor unless you are on a tour. This is the view from the first platform before the second floor.
A fun fact about the Bradbury Building is that it was featured in several well known movies including Blade Runner, 500 Days of Summer, and Lethal Weapon 4. I have seen those movies before but never noticed this building so I might just have to rewatch them!
After visiting the Bradbury, we decided to stop by the coffee shop right next door – Blue Bottle. If you’ve never been there before, you should definitely try it. I really like coffee so it was a plus that we stopped by. I didn’t order any special drink and just got a cold brew that was in a can. It was pretty bitter so I only got through about half of it. =
