Gili Islands

Gili Swing

The Gili Islands are made up of 3 tiny islands – Gili Air, Gili Trawangan, and Gili Meno located in Indonesia. They are known for their island vibes and magnificent diving/snorkeling locations. This is also the location of the Nest underwater statues!

Getting There

Brea and I visited the Gili Islands for 1 day during our time in Bali. To get there from Bali, we took a fast boat which took about 2 hours. The ride is very bumpy and you will be wearing a life vest the entire time. If you get motion sickness easily, you might want to consider taking the public ferry. Brea took some dramamine and wore her psi bands so she was okay.

BlueWater Express

After the fast boat, we were basically dropped off in the water near the shore. This was when we decided to go on a private boat tour to the Nest underwater statues. If you are not in a hurry, you can walk around more to see all of the other tour companies and maybe pick one that better suits your needs.

Things To Do

Sadly we only allowed 1 day for us to enjoy the Gili Islands and so we spent that day going to the Nest underwater statues and 2 other spots nearby. We didn’t really have time to visit the other islands.

But with the time we did have on Gili Trawangan (that was where our hotel was), we were able to see some of these spots:

Gili Swings

There are actually many locations for these magical swings floating in the ocean. Just be careful when you walk up to the swings that you will get wet!

Walk/Ride a Bicycle Around

Brea and I walked around the island visiting a few of the bars. We even tried to rent bikes to ride around the island but I was too rusty haha.

Where to Stay

We stayed at the Black Penny Villa in Gili Trawangan. It was only a 5 minute walk to all of the bars, restaurants, and the shore. They were very hospitable and friendly. They offered us welcoming drinks when we checked in too!

The next time we come to the Gili Islands, we will definitely allow more time so that we can explore the other 2 islands as well! It felt nice to be on an island where you can truly relax.
