Ho’omaluhia Botanical Garden
The botanical gardens is pretty huge. You can easily spend several hours if you are up for some exploring. See below for a map.
When you enter, there will be a security check point. Admission is free so just drive along. You will see a security guard at this point. Right ahead is the famous road where many Instagram photos have been taken at.
There weren’t that many people and not that many cars at all when we arrived at the botanical garden. We did see a couple taking photos at the entrance though. That is where the famous road is. We weren’t sure if it was the location because there are multiple signs that say to not stop along the road and to not walk on it.
You will notice signs in the garden stating that you are not allowed to park on the road. You are also not allowed to park on the grass. Also to not walk on the road.
We decided to just continue driving into the garden and take our photo at the entrance at the end of our visit in case there was another road that allowed photos.
There was an area that had a small space for a car so we decided to stop there. There was a chain blocking the car from driving in further. We parked the car and walked past the chains. This is the first spot we saw. You will notice many manmade things along this path. But we managed to take some creative photos using the surroundings to our advantage.
There wasn’t much else to this path we found. And there wasn’t anything else interesting to US in the gardens so we headed back out to the entrance to try to take a picture on the road.
The Road
You might have seen those popular photos on Instagram of a road with luscious mountains and trees in the background. This is where it is! However, what most people don’t know is that there is a sign that says no photos at the entrance. This was probably put there for the safety of others since it is in the middle of the road.
But since we did drive all the way here just for this spot, I spoke with the security at the front and managed to convince her to let us take some quick photos.
There is a spot to park your car near the entrance so you aren’t parked on the grass. We ran from the security point past the signs to take the photos.
We spent maybe 5 minutes or less taking photos of Brea in the middle of the road and they turned out pretty good! This was the quickest we have ever been to taking any photos.
If you have some time to spare and want to do an effortless activity, this is a great place to do that. You can drive around and just enjoy the scenery while taking a break from all the heart pumping activities that you might be doing in Hawaii. And also get a great photo without too much hassle, if you are able to do it with permission of course. We would definitely recommend checking this place out!
