This is one of the many landmarks that you can see in Phang Nga Bay. The name came from the 1974 James Bond movie – The Man with the Golden Gun. You’ll be able to get a good view of this vertical limestone rock either from the boat or the small island next to it.

Getting There
You have a few options of getting to James Bond Island:
Cruise
This is the most expensive but also most luxurious method of getting to the island.
Long-Tail Boat
This is the more traditional and most common method of travel. You can rent a long-tail boat that will take you to the island. You’ll also be able to visit the fishing and monkey village as well. This is the method that we took.
Speedboat
Getting there by speedboat is also an option. It’ll include all the stops you get via long-tail boat but this will be faster.
Tours
Similar to the Phi Phi Islands, you can book a tour that will pick you up from the hotel and arrange your whole transportation. We used the same company – Snorkeling Thailand. They picked us up at our hotel. The air conditioned private car ride to the dock was about an hour. We took a long-tail boat to our first destination which was James Bond Island.
James Bond Island
Since this famous landmark is under protection, boats are not allowed to get up close to it. The only way you can see it is either on your boat or on the small island next to it. Because we arrived early around 9AM, we beat the big crowds of tourists. You have to walk further in to the island to get a good view of this iconic limestone rock.
After a few minutes of walking, you will get to a clear area where you can see the vertical rock in the background. Be careful if you try to climb the rock like Brea did!
In order to get shots of Brea standing on the rock, I had to go further back and also kind of climb on a rock as well. It was a team effort. I was able to get these shots without anyone in them. Your tour guide will be able to tell you the great spots to take photos at along the way.
After we were content with our photos, we kept walking and saw a weird, slanted wall. Our tour guide tried to show us how to pose here but it didn’t work out so well.
There are also stands where you can purchase gifts and souvenirs.
Visiting James Bond Island was pleasantly relaxing, especially the long-tail boat ride. Maybe I should watch the 1974 movie?
