Lanai Lookout
Lanai Lookout was the first place that we visited when we got to Hawaii. We were actually trying to go to Hanauma Bay but the parking lot was full so we kept driving and found this area to stop and think.
It was really windy on the day that we visited this so be careful.
The parking lot is small. If you have to exit because it is full, make a U-turn and try again. You shouldn’t have to wait long since it’s a lookout, people did not stay long at all.
Once you park, there is a rock wall you can climb over. There are no breaks along the wall, so you will have to be able to climb this wall to get pictures near the cliffs.
If you decide to get closer to the cliffs, make sure to exercise extreme caution as the waters can make the rock floor slippery.
Brea wanted to fly her drone but the winds were too high and unsafe. But this would have been a great area to fly. It is a wide open space with some rock formation to capture.
If you are interested in cliff diving, we are not sure if you would be able to do it at this location. The water kept crashing onto the cliff that we were on so it is probably unsafe.
Lanai Lookout is a great spot to stop and look at the scenery, or to wait out some time before attempting Hanauma Bay parking again. It is not far from the bay entrance. Just a few minutes away by car. We were able to get into Hanauma Bay the second time passing the parking lot.
