Moro Rock Trail

Have you ever hiked up Half Dome at Yosemite? We haven’t either but this is the next best thing!

View of Moro Rock as we are driving up

We decided to visit Moro Rock for sunset and so drove about 4 hours since we were coming straight from the Secret Cove in Lake Tahoe. Luckily, this was on our way home as well so it wasn’t too out of the way …

Because we wanted to get to the top of Moro Rock for sunset, we didn’t have as much time as we wanted to explore other parts of Sequoia. However, we did stop at a few locations before getting to the trail.

The entrance to the trail is right at the parking lot.

Where we parked

Make sure to read the warning signs and also to wear a mask because the pathway is narrow. It’ll be difficult to keep your distance when you are hiking up the steps.

The beginning of the trail

The hike up the ~400 steps took us about 15 minutes. It wasn’t bad at all but we were a little out of breath at times. We managed to stop at some areas to take pictures on the way up.

If you are afraid of heights, don’t worry there are ample railings along the way that you can hold on to.

Look at that sunset view

There were were quite a few people at the top also watching the sunset. But you can find your own little spot if you walk more towards the left towards the end of the railing.

This is at the end of the railing

If you’re feeling adventurous, you can go past the railing but just be extra careful! There are actually stairs past the railing so it was meant to be walked on at some point.

Not many people wanted to go past here, so we had the area to ourselves for the most part.

Brea relaxing and watching the sunset

Watching the sunset at the top of Moro Rock was very beautiful and fulfilling! It also didn’t take too much effort to get to such a good viewpoint either. If we do visit here again, we would probably try to visit during sunrise!
