The lagoons in Moorea are beautiful! You’ll be able to enjoy the ocean and the surrounding views of the mountains in a transparent kayak experience!
We decided to do the private sunset/romantic transparent kayak tour on the first day that we arrived in Moorea (~$200 USD). The tour starts at 4PM and the meet up location is at Intercontinental Resort and Spa Moorea.
Since we stayed at the Hilton, the tour company arranged a pick up for us from our hotel to the meet up location (it costs 2,500 CPF which is about $25 USD for a roundtrip fare).
Brea and I are not big fans of kayaks. We had a bad experience in our trip to Coron (read more here) but we wanted to do this kayak tour because it was transparent. At least it was something new!
You’ll need to switch to a swimsuit since you might get wet and you also stop at a snorkeling location during your tour. You should also bring your snorkel gear and a GoPro (if you have one).
It was difficult to kayak especially when you are going against the current. Our guide kept having to slow down or stop so we can catch up. But somehow we managed to make it to the snorkeling location (which was the stingray bay!).
This was a nice surprise as we got of the kayak and was surrounded by stingrays and sharks. There were a few other people there too but not many.
The stingrays and sharks swim around you but actually don’t get too close. You’ll have to swim closer to them if you want a close up view.
When we were done snorkeling, our tour guide provided some alcoholic (and non-alcoholic) drinks for us as well as cake and fruits. This was a great way to start our vacation with some exercise and stingray and shark encounters.
