Moorea, another luxurious island in the French Polynesia, is known for its volcanic mountains and blue, sandy beaches. It is located only 11 miles from Tahiti making travel between these 2 islands very short and easy. Moorea has both water and land activities to offer!
Getting There
To get to Moorea, you will either need to take a ferry or a plane. We took a ferry after we landed in Tahiti and it was a short 30 minute ride. To get to Bora Bora from Moorea, we took a plane.
Things to Do
Since Moorea is a bigger island than Bora Bora, there are more opportunities for land activities here. One of the must-do activities is to explore Moorea by ATV.
There are also many water activities that you can do here as well including snorkel tours or jet-skiing
We really liked our tour with Moorea Ocean Adventures!
Where to Stay
We stayed at the Hilton Moorea Lagoon Resort and one important thing to keep in mind is that they do not have any medical staff on the premise. They barely have a first aid kit. So if you stay here, make sure to pack a complete first aid kit. Brea got a pretty bad splinter trying to move along the side fo the pool in our hotel room. I had to go around to ask random hotel guests for tweezers. Be careful!
Besides that though, the customer service was pretty good. When you check in, they give you some juice which was refreshing.
Depending when you get there, you might need to wait a few hours. To pass the time, first we went to their gym and had a quick workout session.
That only lasted about an hour though and we still had a few hours to go.. so what else did we do? Had a photo shoot of course haha.
Interestingly, if the Intercontinental Hotel in Moorea was open, it would probably be the best hotel to stay at because of its location. It is super close to the stingrays and shark lagoon that you can snorkel over there! But as of when we visited, they are still closed due to strikes and the inability to find staff. There are some tour companies that are stationed at the Intercontinental while they are closed so don’t be surprised if you head that way. Our transparent kayak tour was located here!
In our opinion, the water was much clearer in Moorea as compared to Bora Bora. There were even sharks in the water when we were having dinner! We didn’t get an overwater bungalow here though and only got one in Bora Bora. If we were to visit French Polynesia again, we would probably stay at the Hilton again but get an overwater bungalow to complete the experience!
