If you’re looking for a quick weekend trip, Cancun is the place for you! In Cancun, you can just relax at the all-inclusive resorts, snorkel with turtles, see underwater museums, or visit underwater caves.
We visited Cancun in October 2019 for Brea’s birthday and it was a nice combination of free food and alcohol and adventures.

Getting There
We booked a non-stop flight from LAX to CUN (Cancun International Airport) via InterJet. Make sure you check their website before booking (due to COVID-19, they may not be operating). The total flight time was about 5 hours.
They don’t provide food since the flight is pretty short. But they do have unlimited alcohol and snacks!
We always arrive at least 3 hours before our departure time for international flights. That means we have a lot of time to spare usually before our flight.
Once you land in Cancun, there will be plenty of people around who can direct you to where you need to go. The airport was pretty crowded when we landed so make sure to plan accordingly.
As soon as you get outside, you’ll see a lot of taxis. You can haggle here!
The drive from the airport to our resort was about 20 minutes.
Things to Do
There are endless things to do while you’re in Cancun. You can even spend all of your trip in your resort if you want to. But if you do want to venture outside, these were some of the activities we went on.
Cenotes
Cenotes are underwater caves that resulted from sinkholes and are located in the Yucatán Peninsula of Mexico. The ancient Mayan believed that these cenotes were gateways to the underworld and some were even used for sacrificial offerings. If you are visiting Cancun or Mexico in general, you must visit some of their beautiful cenotes!
Snorkeling
The clear waters of Cancun in Mexico offer some of the best snorkeling locations. You can see beautiful coral life, underwater creatures as well as underwater museums!
Nightlife
For one of our nights in Cancun, we decided to go to a nightclub. After some research online, we got a table reservation at Coco Bongo. It was really crowded but entertaining. They had performances the whole night. Our friend even got up on stage and danced!
Where to Stay
Zona Hotelera is a long, beachfront consisting of hotels, nightclubs, bars, and restaurants. Like I mentioned above, you can spend your entire trip in your all-inclusive resort. There are many to choose from and we decided to stay at Live Aqua Cancun.
Live Aqua Cancun
Live Aqua Cancun is an adults only beachfront resort. They have many restaurants and bars you can use while you’re here. They even have a really nice pool and gym.
The lobby The room was spacious
During our first night in Cancun, we spent a lot of time at their bar. The bartenders make really creative drinks.
Every night, their bar has a different event or theme. They even had a silent disco night.
All-inclusive includes both drinks and food… so we ate.
A lot…
If you stay here, be on the lookout for a crepe stand. It was so delicious that we came back multiple times on different days!
Even the iguana wanted some haha.
Live Aqua also has a really nice pool and beach area. You can get food and drinks at the pool as well.
Other amenities that this resort offers includes a spa and a gym.
One memorable moment was when we came back to our room and caught one of the staff in the middle of decorating it for Brea! We felt a little bad because we didn’t know she was going to be there.
The 5 days that we spent in Cancun were exhilarating! We were able to see underwater museums, shipwrecks, visit several cenotes, and even had time to fully enjoy the resort! The next time we visit Mexico, we will definitely add more cenotes to our itinerary.
