Cheat Day Land

Cheat Day Land - Cereal Bowl

For day 18 (October 16, 2018), we went to another pop-up museum – Cheat Day Land. This pop-up museum focuses on all the desserts and deliciously bad foods you would ever want. It’s kind of similar to the Museum of Ice Cream if you’ve been and the other new pop-up museum, The Pizza Experience.

Hours

Cheat Day Land is open 7 days a week from 10AM – 8:30PM. You select a time slot that you want to go for when you book your online reservations.

Address/Directions

Address: 2018 E 7th St Los Angeles, California 90021

You’ll notice that the location is the same as the Museum of Ice Cream. Both museums are pop-ups so they have a seasonal stay. Make sure to make arrangements or you’ll miss out!

Admission

Tickets cost $38 per person + fees if you purchase online on their website. You can also buy tickets in person with no reservation needed. When we bought our tickets, there was no promotion yet but there is one now for 34% off so make sure to check that out on their website.

You can also try to find a promo code. We used one from Goldstar. Make sure to keep your confirmation code and just present it to their cashier on arrival.

Parking

There is a small parking lot in front of the building. Park only in the spaces marked for Cheat Day Land VIP. You don’t have to pay extra to park in the spots labeled VIP (we asked someone who worked there).

The entrance to the building is located in a small alley way. Make sure to review the map when you drive up and you’ll see the driveways. If parking is not available, there is free street parking for 2 hours near the museum. Check the signs before parking.

There are also public parking lots ranging from $5 to $12 for all day parking.

When we arrived at our time slot (5PM), the tour guide was still finishing her other tour so we had some time to kill.

Cheat Day Land - Because You Deserve It

After you check in, you’re able to take some photos next to a wall of donuts called Birdies.

Take a photo at this wall and post on your social media with #birdiesDTLA for a chance to win some food!

Since we went around sunset, we also went outside to take some pictures. The sky was a cotton candy color and it made for a good photo opportunity.

There were 2 other groups of people on the tour with us. Unlike the Pizza Experience, the tour guide had to accompany us for the entire time for every room. This was the first time we experienced this in pop-up museums.

There was also a time limit on each room which made it difficult to enjoy the rooms and take good photos if you are in a large group. However, the tour guide will help take photos for you and will help you achieve that perfect photo opportunity.

For the first part of the tour, we were able to visit and take pictures in a set of 3 rooms at a time.

The first room had a variety of art walls –

There is also a wall about pizza because who doesn’t love pizza.

In the second room, there was a wall made out of corn dogs and hot dogs. See how high Brea jumped to get one?

You can also put your heads through these cut outs and be a part of a taco truck.

Besides the things we listed above, there are a couple of other photo chances: walking along side the Beatles food-version, riding a hot dog, and jumping between some hamburger buns and fries!

After these rooms, you are able to go to the next set of 3 rooms. You’ll have to wait until everyone is ready before you are able to move on.

This room was all pink and had chocolate pieces on the floor. It’s the room for you if you really love pink and chocolates. You had to take off your shoes for this room (and a couple of other rooms too).

Only one group was allowed at a time in this next room.

Cereal Bowl

There were a lot of rules before you’re able to go into the bowl of cereal – you had to take off your shoes, no diving, and you also can’t sit in the spoon for some reason, or on the rim. The plus side is that you are able to have private time in the bowl without others that isn’t in your party unlike other museums.

The next set of rooms included a gym, swings, and a trampoline!

Donut Gym

We liked this room because it reminded us of the Pizza Gym and because Brea is a gym enthusiast.  There were two sets of work out equipment and the first one was actually pretty heavy. The donut barbell weighed at least 60 pounds according to our tour guide, unlike the pizza gym it actually weighed something.

The room also has 2 donut swings that you can sit on or stand on. I tried to push Brea but wasn’t able to get her that high. You can also ask the tour guide to help aide you in posing. Our tour guide helped this couple get a cool boomerang.

Only one person is allowed on the trampoline at a time. We found that in some of the art pieces in Cheat Day Land, doing a video or a boomerang in Instagram was more fun than just a normal photo. Brea broke a sweat jumping on the trampoline.

Props Room

One of the last areas of Cheat Day Land included a collection of 5 small rooms where you can wear props.

There’s also a melting color block room where you can get a little creative with your poses.

Finally, you can feel like a star on the red carpet! The pizza is actually being held by Brea, in case you’re wondering where the pizza is on the wall when you’re there.

To exit you can either go through the door or go down a slide. You emerge from a pile of smiling poo.

As you exit, you will go through their gift shop where you can get a piece of a donut (flavors pending – we got pistachio) and free monster coffee/energy drinks.

Cheat Day Land reminded us of another pop-up museum that we went to called the Museum of Illusions, where a lot of the rooms were about taking pictures with wall art (the art looked similar). Since we were timed and had to have a tour guide with us at all times, we didn’t have the freedom that we did at the Pizza Experience to take our time and experiment with our photos. $38 might be a bit pricey for this but it was still a good experience.
