The Paria Badlands are banded hills located between Kanab, Utah and Page, Arizona. You’ll be reminded of the rainbow mountains in Peru if you’ve ever been (we haven’t)!
Paria Badlands in Utah
You can view the colorful badlands from the comfort of your car. We found the viewing area by first routing to this location on Google Maps:
Drive on US-89 S for about 30 miles. Look for a sign that says “Old Pahreah” and turn left into the large parking area. You’ll know you are there because you’ll see some signs that talk about the history.
There’s a dirt road that you can drive on to get the closer views of the mountain ranges. It took us about 10 minutes to get to the first viewing area. You can continue on if you want to get different perspectives but we found that the first area was good enough.
This was a nice and short detour after we visited the Coral Pink Sand Dunes. There isn’t a hiking trail and it was pretty empty. I only saw one other car while we were here.
If we had more time and had a 4×4 car, we would have done more things in Paria Canyon. Next time!
